Though it is home to just 6.96 million people (2007 estimate) and has a total territory of 1,104.3 square kilometers, including Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and numerous small islands, Hong Kong is an international trade powerhouse. Its 2008 workforce of 3.66 million people is concentrated in wholesale, retail, import/export trades, restaurants and hotels (29%); finance, insurance, real estate and business services (14.3%); and manufacturing (4.2%).
