Receiving with the Packstation

Frequently asked questions about receiving with the Packstation

When ordering parcels, always indicate your personal post number and the number of the desired Packstation in addition to your name. Moreover, enter the zip code and the location of the respective Packstation:

ExampleInstructions
Max Mustermann-> Your name
7654321-> Your post number from your customer account
Packstation 123-> Packstation with number
12345 Musterdorf-> Zip code and location of the Packstation

Many online retailers provide designated input fields for the post number and Packstation number for deliveries to a Packstation. If this is not the case, simply enter your address as a separate delivery address.

You are not restricted to a specific Packstation, meaning you can freely choose any Packstation for each parcel.

Important: If the full name and the post number do not doubtlessly belong to the same customer account, the delivery person unfortunately cannot place the shipment in the Packstation. This means that delivery to family members using a common post number is not possible.

The illustration shows address input fields. The following paragraph explains the correct address entry in detail.

To receive your shipment at a Packstation, simply enter it as the delivery address in three easy steps.

  1. After your first and last name, enter your personal customer number (also called Postnummer) in the 'Address addition' field. You can find it on your DHL customer card or in the Post & DHL app. If the 'Address addition' field is not available, you can simply add your Postnummer after your last name, separated by a space.
  2. In the street field, write 'Packstation', and in the house number field, enter the three‑digit number of the Packstation you want to use.
  3. Now just enter the postal code and city of the desired Packstation. Done.

You can find all Packstations with their locations and address details in the Postfinder.

The receipt of shipments with direct addressing to a Packstation is only possible as a registered DHL customer.

As soon as your shipment arrives at the Packstation, you will be notified by push message in the DHL parcel app and by e-mail. You now have 7 calendar days to pick up your shipment.

To collect the shipment, you need your customer card and your pickup code. You will receive the pickup code in the Post & DHL App for each shipment.

Once the storage period of 7 calendar days has expired, the shipment is returned to the sender.

To establish a Bluetooth connection with the app-controlled Packstation machine, you need the Post & DHL app and an active Internet and Bluetooth connection.

To establish the connection, proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the Packstation, open the Post & DHL app and click on the "Packstation" area.
  2. Then select the action you want to carry out at the app-controlled Packstation. For example, if you are expecting a parcel addressed directly to the Packstation, it will be displayed as ready for collection in the "Packstation" area so that you only need to click on it. Otherwise, tap on "Send" or "Pick up".
  3. Agree to the location sharing and use of Bluetooth by the Post & DHL app. Your smartphone will then automatically connect to the station via Bluetooth using the Post & DHL app (Note: You do not need to switch to the Bluetooth settings of your smartphone to do this). As soon as you have successfully connected to the station, the LED next to "Connected" in the centre of the system lights up blue/green.

Please also note the following information:

  • Make sure that the app-controlled Packstation is in operation. You can recognise this by the green LED next to "In operation" in the centre of the system.
  • Please stand directly in front of the Packstation. The connection can only be established within a maximum radius of three metres.
  • If problems occur when establishing a connection, disconnect the Bluetooth connection to other devices such as headphones or smartwatches.
  • If the station is already being used by another customer or delivery person, wait briefly until they have completed the process.

As soon as your parcel arrives, you will be notified through the DHL parcel App. 48 hours later you will be reminded of your shipment and two days before the storage period of the Packstation ends, you will receive another reminder. Please always keep your data updated under My Data & Services to receive the notifications.

In our Packstation, the shipment will be stored for you for a period of seven calendar days - starting with the day of placement. Directly after the placement of your shipment in the Packstation, you will be notified in the Post & DHL App as a registered customer. Otherwise, you will receive a notification card from your delivery agent with which you can pick up the shipment.

Please note: If the shipment is not picked up within this storage period, it will unfortunately be returned to the sender.

If the Packstation's reader does not work or the barcode on the notification card is defective, you can also enter the pick-up code manually on the Packstation display to retrieve your shipment.

No, unfortunately it is not possible to extend the storage period. In our Packstation, the shipment is stored for seven calendar days – including the day it is placed there. Shipments that could not be delivered to your home and were redirected to a Packstation or a postal outlet will be available for nine calendar days. The storage period begins on the day the shipment is deposited. You can collect your shipment within this period. If you are unable to pick up the parcel within this time, it will unfortunately be returned to the sender.

If you are unable to pick up your shipment at a postal outlet or Packstation for a longer period of time, it is best to use our free Neighbour or Filing Location services. This way you can receive your parcels safely and as you wish - even if you are not at home.

Thank you for your feedback.

This may have the following reasons:

  1. No suitable compartment is available in the desired Packstation
  2. The desired Packstation is out of order
  3. Your shipment exceeds the Packstation's size limits
  4. Your shipment is not suitable for Packstation delivery (e.g., cash-on-delivery shipments, age verification required, letter products with #Porto)

If at least one of the above reasons applies, the shipment will be taken to a post office or DHL Paketshop for pickup.

Please check the DHL shipment tracking, the Post & DHL App, or the latest email regarding your shipment to see exactly which Packstation or branch it was delivered to.

If the delivery driver did not find you at home, they may place your shipment in a Packstation and leave a notification card for you. You can use this card to pick up your shipment at the Packstation.
You will find the address of the Packstation holding your shipment on the notification card. You can locate the Packstation using our location finder.

To pick up your shipment at a Packstation, proceed as follows:

  • Packstation with a screen: Touch the screen, select “Pick up”, and scan the barcode on your notification card. Then enter your first and last name and sign on the screen with your finger.
The compartment containing your shipment will open; you can remove your parcel and close the compartment again.
  • App‑controlled Packstation: Open the Post & DHL App on your smartphone and tap "Pick up" in the "Packstation" section. Your smartphone will then connect to the app‑controlled Packstation via Bluetooth. You may need to grant the app permission to access your location and use Bluetooth (note: you do not need to open your smartphone's Bluetooth settings to establish this connection).
Once the connection to the Packstation has been established, scan the barcode on your notification card using the Post & DHL App, or enter the notification code from your digital notification manually.
The compartment with your shipment will open; you can remove your parcel and close the compartment again.

You do not need a customer account to pick up notified shipments at a Packstation.

If your online shop offers Packstation without requiring registration, you do not need to register separately. Simply enter the desired Packstation address when placing your order in the online shop. You can select your Packstation using our location finder.

Once the shipment is in the Packstation, you will receive a notification by email, which also includes the pickup code. For app-controlled Packstations without a screen, you will additionally need the Post & DHL App to collect your shipment.
